Professional Experience
  • 2007 to present: member (part-time), (Ontario) Environmental Review Tribunal (ERT) - adjudicator & mediator.
  • 2004-08: Vice-Chair of (Ontario) Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal - adjudicator.
  • 2004-05: Executive member, Advisory Panel of Ontario's Minister of Environment on improvements to environmental assessment process.
  • 1998 to present: private practice including environmental law & general ADR services (mediation and arbitration).
  • 1972-90: private law practice involving personal injury, family, commercial, estates, environmental, administrative and appellate litigation (including general practice until 1974, and criminal law until 1976).
  • 2003 to present: arbitrator, Tarion (builder arbitration forum in new home warranty program).
  • 2002-03: mediator, Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, Ontario Region.
  • 2001-05: mediator & arbitrator for Resource Stewardship Agreement ADR program of Ministry of Natural Resources.
  • 1999 to present: mediator, Ontario Mandatory Mediation Program (Toronto), Superior Court of Justice.
  • 1998: mediator in civil litigation disputes at ADR Centre established by Ontario Ministry of Attorney General.
  • 1990-98: Vice-Chair, Environmental Assessment Board of Ontario - adjudicator & mediator.
  • 1991-98: member of Environmental Appeal Board of Ontario - adjudicator.
  • 1992-98: hearings officer in Niagara Escarpment Hearings Office.
  • began use of pre-hearing settlement conferences at EAB and developed guidelines for them (1992); developed EAB's guidelines for mediators and facilitators (1995).
  • published and presented professional papers, led seminars and workshops, taught environmental law at University of Toronto Faculty of Law, and currently Director of its Environmental Law Practicum.
